Overview
Construction Management Certificate
The Construction Management Certificate Program is intended to serve owners’ representatives, consulting engineers, architects, design engineers, contractors and subcontractors who have a Bachelor of Science, but not necessarily in construction. Individuals with the certification will have knowledge of the fundamentals principles of construction management, contract administration and construction law, especially for projects performed using alternative delivery methods. Certified individuals will contribute to meeting industry and government needs for professionals in construction management-related positions. The Construction Management Certificate Program is offered in collaboration with the Department of Civil Engineering and Construction Management.
Program Requirements
A. Requirements for Admission
Admission to the Construction Management Certificate Program requires that applicants hold a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution and be approved by the Department Graduate Coordinator.
B. Program Course Requirements
The Construction Management Certificate Program is structured with 15 semester units of required coursework.

CM 601 Advanced Construction Contracts (3)
CM 602 Advanced Project Management (3)
CM 603 Advanced Contract Administration (3)
CM 441/L Highway Design (2/1)
CM 480 Construction Law (3)
2. Certificate Program Completion Requirements
Criteria for the awarding of the Certificate in Construction Management are:
- Complete the 15 units of program course requirements with a minimum program GPA of 3.0;
- Satisfactorily complete all program course requirements within 3 years of program admission; and
- Submit application for the award of the Certificate to the Department Graduate Coordinator.

Student Learning Outcomes
- Utilize modern instruments, methods and techniques to implement construction contracts, documents, and codes;
- Evaluate materials and methods for construction projects;
- Produce and utilize design, construction, and operational documents;
- Perform economic analyses and cost estimates related to design, construction, and maintenance of systems in the construction technical specialties;
- Select appropriate construction material and practices;
- Apply principles of construction law and ethics;
- Apply basic technical concepts to the solution of construction problems involving hydraulics, hydrology, geotechnical, structures, construction scheduling and management, and construction safety.
