Program: Minor in Armenian
Overview
The minor in Armenian will provide students with an understanding and appreciation of the Armenian language, literature, culture and the contributions of Armenians to world civilization. Students with previous studies in Armenian should consult an advisor for advanced placement and course selections to complete the Minor.
Careers
Knowledge of the Armenian language and culture has assumed a new importance since Armenia declared independence from the Soviet Union in 1991. As companies and nongovernmental organizations from overseas conduct business in Armenia, the need for representatives who are well versed in both Armenian language and civilization has increased. Similarly, the influx of large numbers of Armenian immigrants from Armenia to greater Los Angeles has created new opportunities for Armenian specialists in various fields, such as medicine, law, law enforcement, education, the federal government and more. Minoring in Armenian and/or Majoring in Languages and Cultures with an Option in Armenian is no longer perceived as a purely academic endeavor, but rather as a pursuit with practical ramifications.
