Systems and Operations Management

Academic advisement helps students meet their academic goals and graduate in a timely manner. Students in the Nazarian College of Business and Economics receive targeted advisement support based on their academic level. Freshmen are advised by the Matador Advising Hub during their first year and then transition to college-level advisement. The Nazarian College Student Services Center/EOP Satellite provides advisement for continuing lower division Nazarian College majors and new transfer students, as they prepare to enroll in upper division major coursework. Additionally, Nazarian College SSC/EOP provides specialized support and retention services for students admitted to the Educational Opportunity Program. Upper Division students who are currently enrolled in or have completed BUS 302/L are advised by their major’s designated Nazarian College Upper Division Mentors.

The Systems and Operations Management option prepares students for careers in a variety of industries, such as aerospace, electronics, automotive, healthcare, entertainment, transportation, biotechnology, software and banking. The range of positions includes operations planning and scheduling, inventory and materials management, quality management, project management, systems analysis and design, decision support and supply chain management. The average yearly salary of an operations manager is estimated to be around $70,000.

The Global Supply Chain Management option prepares students for careers in a variety of supply chain activities. The range of positions includes sourcing and procurement, demand planning, logistics and transportation, warehousing, materials handling, inventory control and supply chain analysis. The average yearly salary of a supply chain manager is estimated to be around $80,000.

The field of information systems (IS) helps prepare graduates to assume such positions as systems analyst, application developer, database administrator, network administrator, web developer and IS project manager. Information systems career opportunities are available in a variety of industries, including consulting, banking, entertainment, health, media, education and technology. The average yearly salary of an information systems manager is estimated to be around $90,000.

Today’s organizations seek professionals with business analytics skills to gain and maintain their competitive advantage. The Business Analytics option prepares students for careers in a very fast-growing field of business analytics. Business analytics job categories include data/business analytics, business intelligence and business analytics in various functional areas (supply chain, finance, marketing, human resources, healthcare, etc.). The average yearly salary of business analysts is estimated to be around $80,000.

The Ernst & Young Center for Careers provides a full range of career planning and placement services to Information Systems and Business Analytics students. Services include career exploration and planning, networking and LinkedIn, resume review using a customized resume template, interview preparation and any other career-related needs. Additional programs include workshops, Recruiting Boot Camp, Meet the Firms and resume approval in Handshake. It is important that students with the Information Systems major or Business Analytics option include their specific major/option in the major section of their Handshake profile so they can be properly identified as eligible for Ernst & Young Center for Careers services.

The David Nazarian College of Business and Economics is accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB). Only 5 percent of business schools worldwide have achieved AACSB International accreditation.

The Business Honors Program is open to students who are declared majors in Accountancy, Economics, Information Systems, or Business Administration with an option in either Business Analytics, Business Law, Financial Analysis, Financial Planning, Global Supply Chain Management, Management, Marketing, Real Estate, Risk Management and Insurance, or Systems and Operations Management, who meet all Business Honors Program admissions criteria. Students who apply and are selected for admission to the program are offered a variety of benefits; for example, priority registration, mentorship and networking opportunities, a dedicated workspace, specialized academic advisement, smaller class sizes and cohort coursework. Students who fulfill all Business Honors Program requirements will receive the Business Honors option designation on their transcript in addition to their primary degree.
