The Career Center helps students explore majors and careers, clarify life and career goals, and prepare for the transition from graduation to employment or graduate school. Students are assisted in finding a direction for their studies by connecting academic and career plans, and the Career Center is also a resource for employment and work-based learning opportunities.

At the Career Center, students identify their strengths, interests, traits and values; investigate their options; and make informed choices. The Center’s services and programs engage students in experiential and reflective activities, research, seminars, coaching, and career counseling. Students can schedule individual sessions with a career counselor to create a personal career plan, overcome barriers to success and practice job search skills. Peer educators assist students with career resources, resume critiques and interview skills. The Career Center helps students connect with employers through job fairs and networking events.

The Career Center has an active online presence. Social media sites help students keep informed on current career field and job market trends, changes in the workplace, advice for career success, career events, inspirational messaging and student testimonials. Archived podcasts and tutorials are offered through the Career Center YouTube channel. The department’s website features upcoming career fairs and events, drop-in advisement hours, career tips and information, and access to CSUN’s virtual career services platform, CareerLink.

CareerLink guides students through the maze of academic and career information, provides job seeking and career-readiness tutorials, and helps students with planning for life after college. CareerLink offers activities that help students achieve competencies in self-appraisal, goal setting and analysis of job roles. CareerLink includes the Handshake job posting service, academic and career resources, current articles, advice and tips. Using Handshake, students can apply for jobs and internships with national and regional employers, locate on-campus and work study jobs, register for company information sessions and workshops, gain advice from the Handshake community and schedule on-campus interviews.

The Career Center houses Matty’s Closet, which provides enrolled students with gently used professional clothing at no cost, as well as career education on professionalism.

Comprehensive career services are provided at no charge to currently enrolled CSUN students and continue for a year after graduation. Tseng College students and CSUN alumni receive a modified career service package at no charge, including access to job fairs, career events and CareerLink.
