Program: Minor in Theatre: Design and Production

Program Description

Students who desire to acquire a minor in Theatre may select from the following four minor emphases:

  1. Theatre History/Literature
  2. Theatre Acting/Directing
  3. Theatre Design and Production
  4. Mike Curb College of Arts, Media, and Communication Minor in Musical Theatre

Production Participation

Some Theatre minors are required to complete two upper division department production participations. Completed assignments should reflect the broad spectrum of theatre production areas, including, but not limited to, acting, directing, scenery, costumes, properties, lighting, sound, makeup, technology, management and dramaturgy. Courses that require a production assignment as part of the course (TH 339, TH 361A, TH 361B, TH 362ATH 362BTH 363A, TH 363B, TH 367TH 376TH 382ABC, TH 383, TH 384TH 390ABC, TH 459, TH 490ABC, TH 498B, TH 498C and TH 498D) will fulfill the production assignment for the semester during which the course is taken. TH 391 (0-0) carries no unit credit but validates production participation associated with above courses.

2. Choose 6 units from the following:

Coursework in this section must include two corequisite production participations activities.

TH 261/TH 261P Fundamentals of Scenery and Properties Technology (2/1)
TH 262/TH 262P Fundamentals of Costume Technology (2/1)
TH 263/TH 263P Fundamentals of Lighting and Sound Technology (2/1)

3. Choose 8 units from the following:

TH 355 Principles of Stage Design (2)
TH 361A Intermediate Scenic Design and Construction Techniques (2)
TH 362A Intermediate Costume Techniques (2)
TH 362B Intermediate Costume Craft Techniques (2)
TH 363A Intermediate Lighting Techniques (2)
TH 367 Intermediate Makeup Techniques (2)
TH 381 Management Techniques for the Theatre (2)
TH 385 Stage Management (2)
TH 457 Theatre Design Tutorial (3)
