The Department of Student Development and Transitional Programs connects, develops and celebrates our students through events and services that bookend the university experience. Our vision is to encourage/support in the development of personal agency, community and learning success through programming that equitably approaches the needs of the ever-evolving student population.
New Student Orientation
The goal for New Student Orientation (NSO) is to promote the continuous process of integrating students into the academic, cultural and social context of CSUN. NSO provides a solid foundation and comprehensive introduction to student life.
Signature Welcome Events
Occurring at the start of the Fall semester, this department coordinates annual signature events, including the President’s Picnic and New Student Convocation among others.
CSUN Mentorship Program
The CSUN Mentorship Program promotes student success by aiming to help students more easily navigate university life through exploration of campus resources and engagement/involvement opportunities. Peer Mentors are committed to sharing their own experiences, motivating fellow CSUN students and helping set goals for success.
Commencement and Honors Convocation
CSUN Commencement and Honors Convocation occurs at the conclusion of each academic year around mid/late May.
