Study of the history of literary criticism from Plato to the present with an introduction to influential schools of contemporary literary and cultural theory. This course explores, among other issues, aesthetics, the roles of writers and readers, the activity of interpretation, and theories of representation, ideology, and identity. Available for graduate credit.
