Course: LING 309. Language and Social Interaction (3)
Prerequisite: Completion of the lower division writing requirement. This course explores a range of topics related to the study of language and social interaction in both casual and professional settings (such as clinical settings, 911 call centers, news interviews, classrooms). It examines how language affects our social lives and how social organization affects our use of language. The topics include different theoretical perspectives and research approaches to the study of language in social interaction, issues regarding language and situational identity, as well as language learning in social interaction.
