Course: ANTH 500. Foundations of Anthropological Theory and Method (3)

Prerequisite: Graduate standing or consent of instructor. Required for postbaccalaureate certificate and master’s students in Anthropology, and recommended for advanced undergraduate students who have not majored in anthropology yet are considering pursuing a master’s degree in that field. This course provides students with an accelerated overview of past and current anthropological theories explaining human physical and cultural origins and the development and distribution of diverse populations, languages, social institutions and beliefs. Particular emphasis in this accelerated overview is placed on how these theories relate to the methods and insights derived from cultural anthropology, archaeology, linguistics and biological anthropology research.
