Program: Minor in Art Education
Program Description
The Art Education minor provides solid preparation in the subject matter of Art for: (1) undergraduate students who are considering or planning to enter the Multiple Subject credential program, creating a pathway for those students to add a Supplementary Authorization in Art; Track I is open to all students except Art majors; (2) undergraduate art majors who are planning to enter into the Single Subject in Art credential program, preparing them with art content and pedagogy for teaching art in PK-12 schools; Track II is open only to Art majors within the Department of Art and Design.
Program Requirements
Track I: Available to any majors except in the Department of Art and Design. Recommended for Liberal Studies, Multiple Subject or Child Development majors.
1. Lower Division Requirements (3-6 units)
Select one or two courses from the following:
ART 124A Drawing I (3)
ART 124B Drawing I (3)
ART 140 Beginning Two-Dimensional Design (3)
ART 141 Beginning Three-Dimensional Design (3)
ART 200 Introduction to Digital Design Tools (3)
2. Upper Division Requirements (12-15 units)
ART 305 Art and Mass Culture (3)
or other upper division art history course with consent of advisor (3)
Select 9-12 units from the following:
ART 380/L Children’s Art and Lab (2/1)
ART 383/L Art in Early Childhood and Lab (2/1)
ART 385/L Children’s Crafts and Lab (2/1)
ART 478/L Art Education Across Cultures and Lab (2/1)
ART 482 Teaching Art in PK-12 (3)
Track II: Available only for Art majors. Recommended for students who plan to pursue a Single Subject Credential in Art.
