Course: CADV 360. Language Development and Multilingualism (3)
Prerequisite: Completion of the lower division writing requirement. This course surveys the development of language and literacy abilities multilingual populations from infancy through adolescence. The course explores multilingualism from a strengths-based developmental science perspective and examines the cognitive, socioemotional, and cultural factors that influence, and are influenced by, the acquisition of multiple languages. The impact of historical and contemporary educational policy on multilingual learners will also be discussed. Students will develop strategies to support multilingual language acquisition in various applied settings through the analysis of children’s literature and language arts curriculum.
