Course: CHS 437. Chicana/o and Indigenous Asset-Based Approach to English Literacy (3)
Corequisite: CHS 302. Explore Chicana/o and Indigenous asset-based approaches and practices which cultivate English reading and writing development in the elementary multilingual classroom. Identify and explore comprehension strategies and foundational literacy skills such as phonemic awareness, decoding, and spelling while leveraging elementary students’ sociocultural, linguistic, academic, and cognitive backgrounds. CHS 437 students will employ Historically Responsive Literacy practices and elementary students’ lived experiences to support elementary students’ development as critical scholars and intellectuals.
