Course: CJS 460. Career Planning and Professional Preparation in Criminology and Justice Studies (1)
Prerequisites: CJS 260; Senior standing. This course builds on previous career exploration to prepare students for post-baccalaureate professional life. In this course, students will dive into potential careers, advanced education, and training in the criminology and criminal justice field. Students will learn to identify open positions, prepare application materials, and practice skills for navigating the hiring process. In this course, the instructor and students will discuss the practical aspects of the hiring process such as understanding benefits packages, negotiating job offers, and professional etiquette. This course will socialize students to the norms and expectations of day-to-day professional life as well as develop strategies for preventing burnout and addressing occupational stress. 2 hours per week.
