UNIVERSITY CATALOG: 2023-2024

Prerequisites: ECE 320 and ECE 351; or instructor consent. Students must be familiar with basic concepts of linear algebra and calculus such as matrix operations, processing arrays of one or more dimensions, and basic concept of signal processing such as convolution, Fourier and Laplace transforms. The techniques discussed in this course include but are not limited to: image sampling and quantization, image formation, color correction, convolution, spatial filtering, morphological image processing, linear image filtering and correlation, image transforms, noise reduction and restoration, feature extraction and recognition. Emphasis is on the general principles of image processing. Students learn to apply material by implementing processing algorithms in MATLAB and optionally on hardware/software platforms such as FPGAs/microprocessors.
