Course: EED 300. Getting Schooled: Education, Justice, and Becoming an Agent for Change (3)

Prerequisite: Completion of the lower division writing requirement. This course examines the history and purpose of education on local, national, and global levels, inspiring future educators to promote justice and become agents for change within educational institutions. Course content will cover topics including but not limited to: youth and adolescent development in schools, education systems around the world, diverse schooling models and methods, and campaigns for educational transformation. Students will also explore different power systems and structures in education through analyses of school curricula, education policy, and teacher, student, and community organizing. Students should leave the course with a better understanding of how they can promote justice-oriented education and be agents of change within a system that continues to marginalize students, families, and communities. Available for General Education, Area 4 Social and Behavioral Sciences.
