Course: EED 555. Early Cognition and Curriculum Across Content Areas (3)

Pre/Corequisite: EPC 430. The focus of this course is to analyze core theoretical frameworks and contemporary research that have advanced knowledge of development of preschool through third grade students (ages 3-8). Students will be able to examine and then apply this developmental knowledge to core theoretical issues related to social studies, science, visual-performing arts, physical education, and health. Students will connect research findings and empirical methods with theory and practice. Additionally, students will explore the environmental influences on development such as parenting, poverty, second language acquisition, prejudice, and policy, particularly within the areas of social studies and science. Students will advance their understanding of empirical research, application of theory, and analysis in applying teaching strategies to the PK-3 classroom while using core processes to integrate across the curriculum.
