Course: GEOL 456. Environmental Hydrogeology (3)
Prerequisites: Any 3-unit CHEM course; GEOL 303; GEOL 306/L or GEOL 309/L; GEOL 314/L with a grade of “C-” or better; or graduate standing. This course investigates environmentally relevant hydrogeological issues, including natural and anthropogenic surface and groundwater contamination, water resources, and impacts of climate change. The course also surveys a range of environmental challenges and covers a variety of approaches for researching and mitigating them. Specific topics may include carbon sequestration, hydraulic fracturing, surface and groundwater contamination, multiphase flow in porous medium systems, and various modeling approaches. Available for graduate credit.
