Course: GEOL 522/L. Geological Data Analysis and Lab (3/1)

Prerequisite: Graduate standing or permission of instructor. This course provides an overview of numerical and geospatial tools for processing, visualizing and interpreting quantitative data in the geological sciences. Students will be introduced to statistical analysis and mathematical modeling in Excel and geospatial analysis in GIS, apply these computational tools to geological and geophysical phenomena, and explore examples from scientific literature. Topics include uncertainty calculation and interpretation, statistical models, plotting and visualization, GIS mapping, contouring, and data transformations.
