Program: Environmental Science Honors

Program Description

This program provides an opportunity for outstanding Environmental Science majors to gain intensive research experience under individual faculty guidance. The designation “Honors” will be added to the academic record of any student who completes the program. Students interested in the Honors Program should contact their department undergraduate advisor.

Program Requirements

Admission to the Honors Program

Admission to the Honors Program is granted by approval of the department undergraduate advisor. Students are eligible, provided they have:

  1. Completed 90 units of college work.
  2. Maintained a GPA of 3.25 in the upper division Environmental Science major.
  3. Obtained the approval of a faculty sponsor who will supervise their research.

Students in the Honors Program must:

  1. Take GEOL 498 as one of the four upper division electives and earn a “B” or better in the course.
  2. Complete all requirements for the Environmental Science major.
  3. Maintain a GPA of 3.25 in the upper division Environmental Science major.
  4. Have approval of the undergraduate thesis proposal by a faculty advisor.
  5. Present the thesis to peers and geology faculty.
