This course primarily explores the environmental history of North America (focused on the United States) between the colonial period (after 1492) until the end of the twentieth century. It additionally focuses on the ecological layers of Los Angeles and California through the lens of food history. Themes include environmental encounters, land use, consumption, production, and trading routes over 500 years.
