Prerequisite: Graduate standing. This graduate seminar explores theory, methodology, and scholarship related to history and memory. The course considers the power of memory in shaping public interpretation and knowledge about the past and the importance of studying collective memory. The course also examines how memory is contested and reshaped. Major topics include how historical memory shapes oral history, archives, monuments, landscape, and film.
