Course: HSCI 170. Emergency Health Procedures (2)
This course provides students with the knowledge and skills needed to serve as a non-traditional first responder in a variety of settings. Topics include: CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) and advanced first aid, medical documentation, medical terminology, occupational safety and security for health professionals, professional ethics for health professionals, and universal safety precautions and infections control. American Red Cross Certifications are optional. If desired, students must pass practical skills and a Red Cross written exam for the Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. Students who successfully complete the requirements for BLS can take the Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) exam to qualify for the advanced certification if all skills are successfully demonstrated. Meets the Lifelong Learning requirement.
