Course: PHIL 324. Philosophy of Disability (3)
Prerequisite: Completion of the lower division writing requirement. Critical examination of the concepts of ability, health, embodiment, normality, and normativity in the context of reasoning about disability. Students will identify and engage critically with a range of models of disability, using the methods of philosophical reasoning and empirical social analysis to address questions such as: What is disability, and how is it experienced? How are concepts of health and ability constructed? What is ableism? How does classifying disability as an identity affect the organization of society? Is there such a thing as disabled culture?
