Course: PHIL 329. Africana Philosophy (3)
Prerequisite: Completion of the lower division writing requirement. Examination of key concepts and figures in Africana philosophy with attention to one or more periods in its history, from ancient African philosophy to contemporary Black thought. Particular emphasis is placed on the emergence of significant political and philosophical movements such as Black feminism, Black nationalism, or Black existentialism, and to philosophical themes, such as the nature of personhood; the relation of mind and body; the metaphysics of race; and the ethics of political violence, as developed in historical and contemporary Africana philosophical texts.
