Course: PT 744L. Geriatric Practice Management Lab (1)
Prerequisite: Classified graduate status in the DPT program and successful completion of all second-year coursework in the DPT Program. Corequisite: PT 744. The focus of this course is to prepare students to examine and treat patients/clients in the geriatric population using an evidence-based approach. Along with other courses in the curriculum, this course will provide students with the knowledge and skills necessary to meet the essential competencies in the care of older adults as outlined by the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) Academy of Geriatric Physical Therapy. In this context, this course is designed to prepare students to perform patient/client examination, evaluation, and determining a physical therapy diagnosis, prognosis, plan of care, and intervention strategies consistent with evidence-based clinical decision making for the older adult. This course will also equip students with the necessary tools to design and implement treatments that promote health and wellness, prevent disability, and meet the functional rehabilitation goals for the older adult population.
