Course: QS 375. Queer and Trans Asian American Studies (3)
Prerequisite: Completion of the lower division writing requirement. Recommended Preparatory: Another course (not writing or speech) in AAS, AIS, AFRS, CAS, CHS, GWS, or QS. This upper division course examines the diverse terms by which empire and sexuality have produced and reflected gender in Asian America from the 19th century until the present. Examining the tensions within and between Asian and American alongside empire, sexuality, and gender, this seminar asks students to unpack the relationship between epistemologies and cultural production through keywords in the interdisciplinary field of Queer and Trans Asian American Studies. This course examines how race, class, gender, sexuality, ethnicity, and ableism shape the past and present lives of queer and trans Asian Americans.
