Program: Minor in Theatre

Program Description

Students who desire to acquire a minor in Theatre may select from the following four minor emphases:

  1. Theatre History/Literature
  2. Theatre Acting/Directing
  3. Theatre Design/Technology
  4. Mike Curb College of Arts, Media, and Communication Minor in Musical Theatre

Note: TH 110 is the introductory course required in each of the minor emphases to be taken during the first semester of registration as a Theatre minor. Students are strongly encouraged to meet with a Department advisor as early as possible to discuss their program of studies and the selection of an emphasis for the minor.

Production Participation:

Some Theatre minors are required to complete two upper division department production participations. Completed assignments should reflect the broad spectrum of theatre production areas, including, but not limited to acting, directing, scenery, costumes, properties, lighting, sound, makeup, technology, management and dramaturgy. Courses that require a production assignment as part of the course TH 339, 361A, 361B, 362A362B363A, 363B, 367376382ABC, 383, 384390ABC, 459, 490ABC498B498C and 498D) will fulfill the production assignment for the semester during which the course is taken. TH 391 (0-0) carries no unit credit but validates production participation associated with above courses.

D. Mike Curb College of Arts, Media and Communication Minor in Musical Theatre

The minor in Musical Theatre is an integrated studies minor in Music and Theatre offered through the College of Arts, Media and Communication. The program offers the opportunity to study basic musicianship skills, applied voice, acting and stage movement. Students will study musical theatre dance, musical theatre techniques and participate in musical theatre productions. This minor is available to all students, including Music and Theatre majors.

*Music majors taking individual lessons in voice may substitute up to two units of individual voice lessons for MUS 238A.
