The CSUN Athletic Department consists of a broad program of competitive sports for both male and female student athletes, providing them with the opportunity to further develop their athletic talents while obtaining a college education and degree.
CSUN offers 19 NCAA Division I sports: baseball, men’s and women’s basketball, beach volleyball, men’s and women’s cross country, men’s and women’s golf, men’s and women’s soccer, softball, women’s tennis, men’s and women’s indoor and outdoor track and field, men’s and women’s volleyball and women’s water polo. Approximately 350 student athletes directly participate on these teams.
The Matadors are members of the Big West Conference and Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF). The campus colors of red, white and black, as well as the “Rise of the Matadors” campaign, pay tribute to the rich tradition and culture of CSUN Athletics.
CSUN Athletics operates within the regulations set forth by the NCAA. Students designated as intercollegiate athletes must be enrolled full time and are subject to mandates for degree progress established by the NCAA. Enrollment in Athletics courses is restricted to students who meet NCAA eligibility requirements. Students may receive a maximum of three Athletic units per academic year. Members of athletic squads must officially register to receive credit.
