Prerequisite: Completion of the lower division writing requirement. Survey of the socioemotional, physiological, and neurocognitive effects of abuse and neglect from conception through emerging adulthood. Historical and contemporary perspectives related to abuse and neglect of children, adolescents, and young adults are explored through an interdisciplinary lens. Ethical and practical issues regarding maltreatment that are relevant to current and prospective parents, as well as professionals in the field of child and adolescent development, are addressed. Meets the Lifelong Learning requirement. Available for General Education, Area 4 Social and Behavioral Sciences. (I.C.) (W.I.)
