Prerequisite: DEAF 360. Preparatory: ENGL 255; DEAF 281 and DEAF 370. Provides an overview of all genres of both American Sign Language and English literature about deaf/Deaf characters written by deaf/Deaf and hearing authors, and explores Western society’s views of the deaf/Deaf experience as depicted in novels, short stories, drama, poetry, folklore, humor, media and other forms of literature. Prevailing views toward Deaf people in each era are contrasted with the Deaf perspective in the same period as shown through Deaf literature. Conducted in American Sign Language.
