LRS 385. Philosophy of Education (3)

Prerequisite: Completion of the lower division writing requirement. Examination of key issues in the philosophical study of education, such as the nature and aims of education, the relationship between theory and practice, the social functions of education, and relationships among education, democracy, and justice. Questions may include: “What are the epistemic, moral, and social aims of education?”, “What are the best teaching methods?”, “What is the proper content of education (the curriculum)?”, “What is the relationship between education and freedom?”, “How to understand educational policies?” (Cross-listed with PHIL 385.)
