Course: CHEM 107. General Chemistry for Engineers (3)

Prerequisites: CHEM 100 taken at CSUN only with a minimum grade of “C” or a minimum score of 40/60 on the CSUN Chemistry Placement Test and a passing grade in MATH 102. This course provides engineering students with a background in important concepts and principles of chemistry. Emphasis is placed on areas most relevant to engineers, with an emphasis on practical applications and real-world examples in engineering and technology. Topics presented include atoms and molecules, chemical reactions and stoichiometry, gases, the periodic table and atomic structure, chemical bonding, solid materials, thermodynamics, kinetics, equilibrium, and electrochemistry. Enrollment is limited to Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Manufacturing Systems Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering majors only. Credit cannot be earned in both CHEM 107 and CHEM 101.
