Blended Programs Requirements
All undergraduate and graduate policies apply to blended programs. Some programs have additional requirements.
Residency Requirements
- Students must meet blended, undergraduate and graduate residency requirements. Some blended programs have additional residency requirements. The double counted (blended) units must be completed at CSUN.
- Students must complete 30 units in residence at CSUN in the following distributions for the bachelor’s degree:
- 24 of the 30 units must be completed in upper division.
- 12 of the 30 units must be in the major.
- 9 of the 30 units must be in General Education.
See Bachelor’s Degree Requirements.
- Students must double count 9-12 units of coursework completed prior to earning the bachelor’s degree in the master’s program as outlined in the blended program requirements. See Formal Program (Program of Study).
GPA and Grade Requirements
- Students must have a minimum overall GPA of 3.0 (“B”) at the time of applying to the blended program.
- Students must maintain a minimum overall GPA of 3.0 (“B”) throughout enrollment in the blended program.
- Double-counted courses must be completed with a grade of “B” or better to be applied toward the master’s degree.
Some blended programs have additional GPA and grade requirements.
See also GPA Requirements for Graduate Programs Policy.
Program Enrollment and Enrollment Status
- Students who do not maintain the minimum GPA and grade requirements (see above) should receive advisement from the department about continuing in the blended program or changing to the traditional bachelor’s program.
- Students who change their major or master’s program will no longer be part of the blended program.
- Students who do not maintain continuous enrollment at CSUN will need to reapply to the program based on their student status. Students in undergraduate status who do not enroll before a leave of absence expires must reapply to the bachelor’s program and reapply to the blended program. Students in graduate status who do not enroll before a leave of absence expires must reapply to the master’s program.
- If a student in a blended program completes the bachelor’s degree requirements but opts not to enroll in the master’s program, the student will submit a change of major to the traditional bachelor’s program to earn the baccalaureate degree.
- If a student in a blended program completes the bachelor’s degree requirements but does not meet the GPA and grade requirements for admission to the blended master’s program, the student will submit a change of major to the traditional bachelor’s program to earn the baccalaureate degree. The department may advise the student on the process for applying to the traditional master’s program.
- If a student decides to return to pursue the same master’s program in the future, they must formally apply for graduate admission. With the approval of their academic department, students may count graduate courses completed during their blended program studies towards their master’s degree. Such courses cannot exceed seven years since completion, unless approved for validation by both the academic program and the AVP of Graduate Studies or designee.
Admissions-Enrollment Status
- All requirements for the bachelor’s degree (including the double-counted courses) must be completed prior to changing to graduate status.
- Once a student completes all bachelor’s degree requirements and their degree is awarded, they are moved into graduate status. Students will receive their undergraduate diploma with a graduation date reflecting the semester at which they complete all requirements for their bachelor’s degree (see “Awarding of Degrees” below).
Awarding of Degrees
- Students must apply to graduate with their bachelor’s degree after earning 90 graduation units and when their CSUN Portal indicates they are eligible to apply. Upon applying for graduation, students must file a Blended Pathway Postbaccalaureate form with the Office of Graduate Studies.
- Students are awarded their bachelor’s degree upon successful completion of all degree requirements, including any double-counted courses.
- Students must apply to graduate with their master’s degree when they are eligible.
- Students are awarded their master’s degree upon satisfactory completion of the requirements for the degree.
