UNIVERSITY CATALOG: 2021-2022
President Erika D. Beck

Greetings, Matadors!

As the president of California State University, Northridge, I am pleased you have chosen CSUN to pursue your education and achieve your long term and professional goals. You should take great pride in being a student at a world-class university, known for its overall excellence, academic rigor, commitment to diversity, social justice and inclusion, and focus on student success. CSUN has always been a driving force for social and economic mobility, and we are pleased you are here.

During your studies at CSUN, the University Catalog will serve as an important reference and guide for your academic journey, options on your path to graduation, and information about your classes, major and campus policies. I encourage you to become familiar with the catalog to understand academic requirements, which will help ensure you graduate in a timely manner. Additionally, our academic advisors, faculty and others at CSUN are available to you for assistance and guidance. We are all here to help you and are committed to your progress and success.

Springtime is widely welcomed as a season of renewal and new beginnings, and although we begin the Spring 2022 semester with a temporary delay to in-person learning, I am filled with hope that we will soon be able to gather on campus.

Your strength and perseverance in pursuing your goals despite the pandemic is truly inspiring. CSUN remains deeply committed to your success and a rewarding college experience–all university offices are open and services will be available for students both in-person and remotely during the entire semester. These include advising, financial aid, student health and counseling facilities and services.

We know COVID-19 will remain present in our society for the foreseeable future, but together we have learned to manage it while maintaining a robust college experience. You can be assured that CSUN will continue to follow the science and implement public health-informed policy and protocols. And we ask all of you to do your part as well, ensuring that you are vaccinated, getting boosted and following personal health and safety precautions.

In addition to the many support services and programs to advance your academic progress, such as tutoring and mentor support, I encourage you to make the most of your college experience by getting involved at CSUN through clubs, student government and other activities. Our Student Recreation and Oasis Wellness Center also offer virtual services and classes, so I encourage you to explore their websites and contact them for details.

At CSUN, we strive to create an environment where students can empower themselves, realize their potential, and become the leaders we need for a brighter, more learned and just future. With this in mind, I hope you make the best of your university experience, and take full advantage of the opportunities, resources and services that are available to you during your studies here. The college years are a time of transformative personal and intellectual growth and exploration, and an opportunity to network and make lifelong friends, connections and memories. We are here to help make this happen for you and to support you in your educational pursuits.
