Course: EED 559G. Clinical Practice Seminar II: Early Childhood Education (1)
Prerequisites: EPC 430, EED 520, EED 565M, and EED 555. Corequisite: EED 560EC or EED 560ECU or EED 561EC. This course is a one-unit supervised fieldwork seminar for PK-3 Credential candidates. The seminar provides opportunities for candidates to reflect upon and analyze fieldwork experiences in grade PreK-TK, and grades K-3. Student teachers and interns learn to (1) assess their needs; (2) gather data; (3) analyze results; (4) problem solve; (5) modify teaching practices; and (6) determine implications of their experience for future instruction. Seminar content will be organized around the eight Teacher Performance Expectations (TPEs) which are aligned with the California Standards for the Teaching Profession (CSTP). Students begin to develop competency in these domains in the areas of reading/language arts and mathematics during the first semester supervised fieldwork experience and are reflected in the Classroom Teaching Profile (CTP) used to evaluate teacher candidates in their clinical practice. Discussion and assignments in the seminar are designed to further promote students’ developing competencies in these domains. The seminar will promote teacher candidates’ completion of the Teaching Event of the adopted Teacher Performance Assessment. This course is taken concurrently with the second semester of supervised clinical practice. (Credit/No-Credit only)
