Program Description

Mike Curb College of Arts, Media and Communication Minor in Musical Theatre

The minor in Musical Theatre is an integrated studies minor in Music and Theatre offered through the College of Arts, Media and Communication. The program offers the opportunity to study basic musicianship skills, applied voice, acting and stage movement. Students will study musical theatre dance, musical theatre techniques and may participate in musical theatre productions.

This minor is available to all students, including Music and Theatre majors.

Program Requirements

1. Required Music Courses (6 units)

MUS 238A/B Elements of Vocal Technique (1-1-1-1)*

Choose 2 units from the following:

MUS 110A/MUS 110B Keyboard Musicianship (1-1)
MUS 131A/B First-year Piano (1-1)

*Music majors taking individual lessons in voice may substitute up to two units of individual voice lessons for MUS 238A.

2. Required Theatre Courses (5 units)

3. Required Dance Courses (2 units)

Choose 2 units from the following:

DANC 139A Ballet I (1)
DANC 139B Ballet II (1)

*Students with extensive dance experience should consult with Kinesiology for a substitution.
